LAMBS

Internets, I currently live in a rural town. We have gorgeous Victorian era buildings made out of limestone, and we have penguins.

Yup, penguins.

Eat your heart out, Northern Hemisphere, you and your ADORABLE SQUIRRELS that people MOCK ME FOR COOING OVER.

Penguins are gross and they smell like fish and one bit me once.

Anyway, at this time of year we also have lots of lambs, and the ones next door have prompted the following observations:

Things Human Babies Are Unlikely To Do In The First Few Weeks Of Life That Sheep Babies Definitely Will:

- Stand on their mother's back while she lies there placidly and then call out for her because they have forgotten where she is.

- Accidentally stick their heads in a stream of their mother's urine, pull it out, shake it off, look confused, and then DO IT AGAIN.

- Hump other babies.

LAMBS. They light up my life.

Around here all the lambs seem to be standing on haystacks...yelling for their mothers who are at the bottom of the haystack eating the hay.

(But penguins rock! We only have cute little fairy penguins here, though, so that may have something to do with it. And they are guarded by even more adorable Maremma dogs!)

Lambs make yarn. Everything they do is thereby okay.

It took me several re-reads to realise that the buildings were made of limestone, and there were also penguins. As opposed to buildings that were built of a mixture of penguins and limestone.

I just came over here from LJ to make that very observation. ^_^ Although my initial mis-read involved public buildings with ornate Victorian carvings of penguins.

Your initial mis-read is less horrifying than mine. I imagined dead penguins being mixed in with the mortar.

I too thought there was buildings made out of limestone and penguins. You are not alone. It took me your comment to realise that's not what was intended.

omg penguins!

And lambs! Although I always feel guilty cooing over lambs because I like to eat them as much as coo over them…

Oh, lambs. They're almost as delightful as wee goats.

You coo over squirrels?? Why, when chipmunks are SO MUCH CUTER!

They are smaller, and stripey. And less like rats with a bad perm. And less likely to advance in gauche manner upon the tourists.

(I will grant you that the little red squirrels are almost as cute as chipmunks. Too bad they are not stripey.)

Lambs! So cute!

I coo over squirrels too--both the huge stompy ones I've seen in Ontario and some of New England, and the much smaller red ones we have on the east coast of Canada. (I used to wish we had both, but then was told that if the big ones migrate here they'll likely kill off the little red ones, so...no thank you. O_O) Squirrels!

Lambs are delicious and cuddly. So are Rabbits (though my heart weeps over this fact and my mother in fact tricked me into eating Rabbit this one time and I cried and cried for days).
